Helping Other Reach Their Goal
I can’t think of a time that I haven’t enjoyed helping others! I may not have helped my community or my society as much as other people. I believe that helping one person can change, not the entire world, but at least the world of whom I am helping. If you have helped one person, they may help another person, and then that person helps another, and so on and so forth. If you have done this, then you may have changed/impacted multiple lives. Like my mother once told me, change starts with one person.
One experience I remember vividly is when I helped younger children learn new skills in soccer. Right after soccer practice, my coach had my team and I teach kids some new abilities they haven’t learned yet. My team got into groups of threes, and then the children got in groups of four or five. Then the children would rotate when they were told to do so. And the groups of three would focus on one specific skill. My group taught them how to settle the ball by having them get a partner and throw it at their feet, chest, or head. It was great to show them skills that are necessary to play the sport of soccer.
Giving them this guidance gave me joy because I felt as if I made a big difference in their lives. By the end of the practice I saw what a big difference my team had made in such short time. I realized that if we could do that, all of us could make a huge difference if we taught them once a week and maybe even once a month. I think my favorite part was when I also learned new things from my peers. I also feel as though we learned some things about each other and got closer as a team. I am so happy I got the chance to help others, and even got help myself.
In conclusion, if I had the chance to teach something I love as much as soccer, I would do it a million more times. I truly think that I became a better person, and I also think that those around me became better people too. The thing that made this a better experience was the people with me. I realized I could change the world by just helping one person, but it means ten times more if you have people with you, who are willing to help just as much as you are!
